Q: Looking for a simple guide, not too deep for a semi-comp-literate person.
Skimming the ATFAQ u0026 Google has not come up with much. Someone has a nice site with what I was lookin for.

Yeah, brutal… 1 minute and 57 seconds through a modem: Home –> Support&Docs–>User Manuals–>Configuring a Dual-Boot System gets you this (http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-7.2-Manual/install-guide/ch-dualboot.html).
That's about as step by step as you're going to get… you will actually have to make a few choices all by yourself. If that's too much for you, then I suggest you stick with Windows – you wouldn't like Linux anyway. >>
Let me clear somethings up: It is NOT for me. Just a friend that is interested. I do not run Windows 98. I have run RedHat, but do not have the time to type out each step, nor would it make sense to.
The forums are very f-ing slow right now, its been a $hitty day, this dude wants to do it all by himself. I just had to erase this message and start again cause it timed out. AARRRGH!
Sure you found it quickly on your lovely modem (BTW, there are DSL, Cable, 56K, etc. modems, so it don't mean much to me), but I did not find much very quickly, so I came here. I do not put much time and effort into searching around for someone that is bugging me to find them a nice step-by-step.
SILLY me, I figured that someone had a really nice straighforward site saved in their favourites/bookmarks, that went through the install step-by-handheld-step to help newbs.

Is there free space on the hard drive or a second hard drive with free space?
If you need to make free space and cant format, try partition magic. I did it a while ago and it worked great. Most distributions out there right now (big name .com types suse, rh, mandrake, etc) will automagically setup the Windows stuff in LILO.

Re:Just take a few pages out of a distro's docs – Win98/Linux is by far the easiest dual-boot, so it doesn't require any tricks beyond resizing your partitions. As I recall from a ways back when I tried RedHat 6.0, the user's guide had a very readable discussion of what partitions are and how to resize them and install Linux on a machine that previously was only Win98. It's probably online at their site somewhere.
