Looking for some help choosing a router [networking works] [hey guys]
Q: Hey guys my basic dilemma is that I live in a house with 35 other people connected to the Internet. We are looking for a router that will be able to view all our daily needs without overloading our POS router that we now have to buy. Our current configuration is a D-Link DI-804HV VPN Router with 4-port 10/100 Netgear 2 24port switches. I have only a basic knowledge of how networks work and really not sure how a router that many users choose. If someone could lend me suggestions on what kind or what type of router should I look for it would be greatly appreciated.
Willing to 400
if higher pay, we might consider some extra cash pooling
Re:Thanks for the input guys. We will consider these options and see if that will help
Re:Sacrifice a case of beer a week.
Re:OK, you'r ecurrent router should be good enough. What you need to do is go into and block all bit torrent traffic and pretty much only leave port 80 open for webpage access.
If there are 35 people, get them to pony up $1.40 more a month and you can increase you capacity.
Re:Doesn't sound like a router issue, more like Bandwidth! Any "yamaguchi" router will handle 254 users… The variable is what the users are doing…
Re:Any suggestions on what type of router that would be good for our cause?
Re:well what we are trying to do is spend the money on equiptment instead of the service.
Re:If 35 people can not support two connections you all must be in a very Bad Shape.;)
Might be that a little work and less Intrenet would be more Healthy.:light:

Re:We did consider splitting up the network and having 2 cable lines. We live in a fraternity house so we want to see if we can keep the costs down by spending a amount of money now instead of tacking on another 50 dollars a month which will run us about another 600 bucks for the year. We want to see if there is a router that can support 35 people instead on spending the money on service.
The bandwith is not a issue here we just need a router that can handle all our activity. Its just that our router crashes every so often and seeking a better one.
Re:If the 35 users are doing "POS" activities and you have a regular Internet connetion, there is No Router in the world that would help you.
You should consider getting more accounts and splitting the Network so that you have more bandwidth and less users per node.

Re:We would like to keep it in the upto 400 dollar range but we are willing to spend alittle more if needed but nothing over 1000 dollars
