msconfig in XP does not work anymore [msconfig]

Best Answer: Some advice on system restore and how to try it in safe mode or troubleshoot it can be found here:

I know from experience that if a virus/ malware scan has removed any files from a saved restore point it won't work as it cannot restore missing files and the entire operation fails. I tend to create restore points at least every week and if everything is working ok remove all previous restore points.

-Use the system restore utility to restore back to when it worked.
