i found out wat is wrong. when my friend bought his computer it didnt come with a system recovery cd. the system recovery was on a partition of the hard drive. when he had a problem with his computer in the past, he took the computer to somebody that used his own windows cd and reformatted the whole hard drive. which means he deleted the partition. the pc came with windows xp home and the guy installed the pro edition. if i order the system recovery cds from hp will they work?

the model of the pc is the hp pavilion a347x.

Yes, they will work. You need to go to the HP parts store, at this LINK (http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/Search_Results.asp?mscssid=MWG3NHADGA5T8JMKKL7DALS F1BR34R49) Call 1-800-227-8164, part # is "34NAHEBLU" and it is $12.08 plus shipping. They show 2 different model numbers, but they have the same part number. They take about 4 or 5 days to ship, on average, if I remember correctly. Good luck.

Re:I don't know how old you are talking about, but my HP Pavilion dv1000 came with a "Operating System CD – Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP2" Of course, it is only good for that particular model laptop.

Communicating with HP Support ain't easy – depends on the time of day whether or not you get the USA or India. :)

But, if a CD is available for that particular model, and you have the S/N etc., you should be able to get a replacement.

Re:i press f10 and the computer starts beeping but it doesnt give me the option to do a system recovery instead when i stop pressing f10 it starts loading in to windows

A lot of Hp's have a hidden or extra partition, where the recovery option can be accesses on startup by tapping the F10 key. Also you can contact hp and get recovery cd's for a lot of models. They seem more willing to help you, if you tell them you have a bad hard drive.

Like this says, recovery partitions are usually accessed through F10 or F11 at bootup. Press F10 when you see the blue HP logo screen on startup.

Re:Like the others said alot of new computers you need to create your own recovery CD's from somewhere in the start menu. HP would probably send you them for a small $10-$15 fee though.

Re:Bump. I have the same problem.

Re:On some of the newer , you have to burn your own recovery cd's. There might be a option in the start menu to do this. I know when my grandpa bought his hp computer about 2 years ago. It didnt come with any recovery cd's. It had an option in the start menu to make his own recovery cd's. I think for his computer, took about 6 cd's
