My Network Places (WinXP) is much slower than Win98 Network Neighborhood [network neighborhood] [imagination]
Q: Maybe its just my imagination but I swear that My Network Places on my WinXP Pro machine is much slower and less reliable than the Network Neighborhood on my win98se machine. I think I read somewhere that My Network Places may be problematic, but is it normal for the worse than Win98SE? If so, this is something that will probably be fixed by Microsoft in the future, or is there a current workaround? Thank you. RW
Re:In case anyone else is interested, here is an article I just found with suggested workarounds:

Re:In general, I find XP much better than Win98se, both in speed and reliability. That is part of the reason I was so surprised that it seemed slower in this one specific area. Thanks guy, as always you've provided a lot of helpful info and links. RW
Re:As an OS WinXP is not slower then Win98.
Some of the settings and maintenance menus behave differently then W98 since the OS is much more complicated.
Re:Wow, it sure looks more complicated. So, I take it the short answer is that XP is inherently slower than Win98se on networking, and that is just the way it is and there isn't much you can do about it (unless maybe you can wade through this article)? Thanks for the info. RW
Re:Win XP network is more elaborate then Win98, it takes more time to perform certain process.
Here you can find some info concerning Master Browser.

Re:I don't understand — what is Master Browser? If it is an add-on program, I don't have it installed, as far as I know. If, on the other hand, it is a tweakable feature, what do I do? Thanks. RW
