Naming Graphics card – ATI 9800 new nVidia 9800 u0026 (?) [ati 9800] [nvidia 9800]
Q: remembering the classic ATI 9800, which was sold as
a “FireGL” card for about a thousand dollars – I had my one
in Xeon workstation in 2002 2003.
looking name on the card – 7600, 7800, 7900.
8600, 8800, thought I will probably come full
circle. u0026 NVidia will name one of their cards
the 9800.
unless they decide to go to the “9xxx numbers
and” go to a different numbering / naming system.
Best Answer: i think (Nvidia 9800) is better for you

Is it just me or is this topic summary misleading? I expected to come in here and see support for Q1, 2008 release. Although we did hear rumors that we can expect something in March/April, that pretty much borderlines Q2, 2008. In any event… I am now a bit upset, because there is no new information. :frown:
Not only is it mis-leading, but this topic has been covered ad nauseam already.

Re:id of thought they would of named it 8900 before 9800 like the 7800GT>7900GT.

Already gone the full circle with overlapping names.
QFT. Good post.
Naming generally isn't exclusive. Have I missed it where companies are powerful enough to patent and copyright numbers now?
