Need help setting Multihomed PC . [multiple network cards] [gateway address]
Q: On a W2K machine with multiple NICs, do I need a gateway address
on put each NIC? Is there a document which is the process for this?

Re:Well first of all computer use the gateway ip address only when it is trying to reach another device on a different subnet/network. When your accessing the internet a gateway is used, but when you're just accessing the computer on the same network the gateway is ignored.
I guess you can follow that guideline ![]()
Re:Now when do you need to enter a gateway at each NIC and when not? I have looked around and sometimes see people putting it in and sometimes they don't…is there a convention to follow?

Re:Nope, you only need the gateway on the nic that connect to the wan.
Re:ok, first thing. you might want to think about getting a router to use rather than going this method. its fast, easier and will run even when the 1 computer is down.
ok the wan connect nic needs the gateway.
the lan connect gate way, either uses the loopback or the otehr nic's.
Re:One NIC is connected to the internet and the other to a LAN.
