Need help setting up new monitor [nforce2 ultra 400] [native resolution]
Q: I have just one X22WG Sceptre monitor, a native resolution of 1680 x 1050
Im using DVI between her and the Sapphire X1300 256M AGP video card. NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra motherboard The
400 and the Athlon 2300xp processor and I am
running Win XP II. The X1300 graphics card is supposed to 1680 x 1050 at 60 Hz
according support to Specs.
Here is my problem: When I try to run the card at 1680 x 1050 at 60 Hz, the full display
is spark Leys (flashing pixels) and other artifacts . The highest resolution produces
a clean screen is 1280 x 1024. Videos look pretty descent at that resolution, but the text looks
fat and fuzzy, like you would expect.
Edit: a feeling I hung the VGA cable and now everything works ok, can I set up
on 1680 x 1050, 1960 Hz and evrything is happy.
I better still use the DVI setup, so my question is, what is the problem, poor
Video card or monitor problem?
Suggestions, anyone?

Best Answer: you only need to use one card (your 8400) for dual monitors (since it has 2 heads). go in your bios and disable your on board video. you're right to download the drivers from nvdia (the ones on disk are old and gross!). after your on board video is disabled then you can install the new gpu.
Re:Thank you all for your suggestions, it turned out to be a baaad DVI cable. Now, I will have to fight with New Egg / Scepter to get it replaced.
Wish me luck,

Re:I have already done that, unfortunately, it made no difference. Thanks anyway,
