Need help – to build new system – MOBO DFI NFII400-AL [amd xp 2600] [dfi nfii]
Q: Hi, I bought a DFI NFII 400-AL with an AMD XP 2600 +, AGP 8X, 512MB DDR Patriot 3200. After connecting and turn on the messages displayed fine (the recognition of memory, CPU and the local temp etc and the DEL for the installation. When I DEL key is pressed, nothing happens (same goes for Alt + F2). During the power on sequence, the keyboard lights up to show that its approved.
Im stumped – would you use a suggestion to solve this problem – is it a known problem?
Appreciate your help a lot.
Thanks
Re:Help! cpu fan will only spin for a split second when attempting to boot system. Standby Power LED and DRAM Power LED are lit but that's about all it does. As for the front panel connectors, only power led and power switch are connected. Please be kind and don't say RTFM…as you know, there's no troubleshooting section.
Thanks in advance.
Re:Thanks, I will try that
Re:If you're sure all jumpers are set correctly, and it still doesn't work, assume it's bad, and return the motherboard. If you bought it locally, take your entire box to your dealer, and ask them to show you what's wrong. If you bought it from the web, I hope they have a toll free number to call for help.
I'm running a different DFI board, right now, so I know they make some good boards. If you're really stoked on that DFI model, get a replacement before trying a different board.
It isn't worth the value of your time to argue with a board that won't even go into the CMOS with a bare minimum setup. ![]()
Re:Ok, I tried the reset to no avail. Then I tried to disconnect each device, starting with DVD-ROM drive, followed by Floppy. Each time, I tried to boot with the same result. The memory is recognized, shows the display regarding the DEL for setup, but nothing happens after the DEL is pushed. The keyboard is recognized, because KB lights during the boot.
Any suggestions!!!!!!
Re:Hey Thanks. That looks promising. I will try it when I get home and post a reply.
Re:I checked DFI's BIOS page for the DFI NFII400-AL (http://www.dfi.com.tw/Support/Download/bios_download_us.jsp?PRODUCT_ID=1982&CATEGORY_TYPE=null&STATUS_FLAG=A). There is an update that deals with detection failure when using some CD-ROM brands. Try unplugging everything except the minimum necessary to bring up the machine, and keep just the hard and floppy drives and the vid card. If the machine works, try adding one item at a time until you find what's causing the hangup.
Hope that helps. ![]()
