Need help with installing Tablet PC 2005 [windows xp pro sp2] [original cd]

admin / July 18th, 2011/ Posted in Operating Systems / No Comments »

Q: I had to wipe out the Tablet and the restart after a crash in the hardware. I have this disc to install what appears to be and the second disk I have is the drive components for Tablet PC.
I lost the original CDs and so had a copy of the OS from a friend. I installed the first disc (which tells me the system properties to XP Pro SP2). I now have the Tablet of the system to make functional again as a tablet to install.
I did some reading on Microsoft s website, but it has not really answered my questions (and confusing for me) 0.
I was wondering if there was anyone who could help me, so I use the machine for educational purposes (why I bought in the first place) and to prevent more delays.

If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate. I would even pay someone to help me out.
Thanks

Re:I would talk to your OEM first. If you bought the machine from them, it should've come with a Tablet key.

No, you can't buy it from MS and download it.

Re:How can I buy another copy of Tablet PC 2005? I have never been able to find one for sale. Can I buy directly from Microsoft and just download it?
I keep thinking this is the issue and my copy is no good.
Thanks for the help. Any more advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re:When I was installing the 1st time it asked me for the cd-key and I typed in the number that came with my tablet (I assumed it was the Tablet OS cd-key). I even tried to reformat once again and do this again but still the same issue.

Strange, it isn't acting like a Tablet PID. You can't install the tablet components on top of XP Pro. They need to installed during setup, when prompted for CD2.

Also, you would not see XP Pro on the system properties, it should XP Tablet Edition.

Also, if you have Tablet Edition installed, you should see the tabtip.exe process in the processes list.

Re:OS first, then drivers.

If you're using the key that came with the tablet, that shouldn't be a problem.

How can I change this? Do I need to buy some software?
Thanks for the help and hope I can get this running soon.

Re:Tablet installation is dependant on the key. If it didn't prompt you to put CD2 in the drive during setup, you used a standard XP Pro PID, and not a Tablet PID.

Re:I have all the drivers downloaded on to a cd. Do I install them before I do the installation of Tablet PC 2005 or do I do them after? I am trying to follow this set up using "sysprep" that I found while reading Microsoft's website.
If anyone can help me out, please let me know
Thanks

Re:Heyya!

Make sure you have the drivers for your particular tablet, and install them right after you put the OS on.

And if your tablet was anything like mine, I'd suggest doing the full reformat of the hard drive during the install. I could never get mine to work right till I did that.
