Q: I am very new to home networking and Im gettin pissed!

ive read online articles have been futile, but . My fundamental problem is that the will not work . Im using NetBEUI Network my two systems together just (NICs and a ) and file sharing is fine, but I have a feeling that if I could put tcp / ip property ics my troubles away going . can someone please either give me a link to a good article on setting up a tcp / ip lan only, or post general address to use for the subnet mask, gateway, etc. .?

additional info: Both systems are running Win98SE and my internet is Comcast @ home cable . I have a realtek (dlink) ethernet card for the @ home service and 2 identical nics for Olicom lan .

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re:WOOOHOOO!! it works!

thanks a lot for your help, both of you! a combination of guy's ip subnet and gateway values and the articles that guy suggested (and not a small amount of physical abuse inflicted upon the client computer :D ) did the trick!

now the really fun part – moving the client system into my roommates bedroom, upstairs, and running the through the walls to get it out of the way…joy..

Time Sharing Revealed
Re:i knew being an aetheist was gonna get me in the end…the networking gods frowned on my settings…nothing bad hapened, my file sharing still works fine, but i still can't share the internet connection, using the ics program or not…

where did you get those values from, are they values you use or are they supposed to be general settings? got any more ideas?

one side note, i was running windows me on both systems for a short time, and ics worked just fine with that os…is it just generally better at networking?

thanks for the help!

Re:1st computer (LAN NIC):

IP address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

2nd computer:

IP address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1

Bind TCP/IP to all of the NICs. Make sure that File and Printer sharing is NOT bound to the NIC that's connected to the internet. Bind NetBEUI to the two LAN NICs. Restart both computers and pray to the Windows Networking Gods.
