Need to switch Dial Up Networking [dial up networking] [modem]

admin / January 20th, 2011/ Posted in Operating Systems / No Comments »

Q: I have my mobile phone to act as a dial-up for when I am away from the Internet. The problem is that when I have Internet access and a web page times out, close the dialog box pops up the dial-up . This is really annoying if I sites like digg.com where half the links are dead browsing.

Is there a way to the Bluetooth off when Im not using?

Im Windows XP.

Best Answer: In internet explorer tool go to connections and set dial when a network is not available.

Re:Thats what I'm currently doing, but I consider it an unacceptable solution. Installation and configuration takes about 10 minutes, which is a ridiculous amount time considering I want to use this to quickly check the internet when I'm away from an internet connection.

Re:I've gone to device manager. Under the section it has "Bluetooth " and "Standard ". I have disabled both of them, but the connection dialog still pops up.

And yes, I have restarted the computer.

Re:In the dial-up preferences I have disabled auto-dial. But it still pops up and asks me if it is ok to dial. I can't find any setting to completely turn off the connection.

It would be nice to simply disable the dial up connection like I can disable a LAN connection.
