Neo2 Platinum and large amounts of RAM [msi neo2 platinum] [gaming rig]

Q: For my new work + , Im looking a mobo for amd64 .
From what I understand, to access the full potential of the S939 motherboards, we must use DIMMs in pairs for double channel.

At this time I have more than 1GB to work . Thus, the 2 GB is the only logical choice.
(well, there would be 2×512 + 2×256 . but thats a lot . DIMMs)
64bits OS and apps eat lots of memory, if I want to upgrade to 4Gb finally . ram without throwing away . with two 1GB DIMMs is the way to go. – I think-

But . Here is the valid permutations for the four DIMMs in the slots that ONT motherboard.
S = D = double-sided dimm
dimm

S 977 503 — – — S-
D 977 503 – D-
S-S-
D-D-(only DDR333)
SS – 977 503 – SS
DD – 977 503 – DD
SSSS
DDDD (DDR333 only)

This tells me that double-sided DIMMs are not a good idea (if I plan to have more than 2) (DDDD)

so . um . Is there a cheap (and quality) single-sided memory out there? I dont plan to overclock a motherboard supports DDR400 memory madman

the top clocks, but only at DDR400 . Why? that is for overclocking purposes?

Re:I do not have anything yet; I plan to have a 6800GT with that. The video card doenst have anything to do with the ram I hope!

About more than 2Gb … yeah… it's not very useful right now. But with 64 bits OSes… we can expect the memory requirements of applications to jump.
So… I would prefer to get two 1Gb DIMMs and add 2 other next year… if needed.

Kingston instable????

Now I am confused!

I trust you mean instable… for overclocking?

I dont plan to overclock… the 10-20% of gain is not very useful; and a overclocked rig is risible 2-3 years after that. (What is a 3500+@3700 when 6000+ are available…)
I'm trying to build a rock-stable system, with optimal performance using stock speeds.

Also, having 2-4 Gb of overclockable ram is $$$$

Not for OCing. Just get some corsair value RAM or something. Kingstons are generally cheap and are frequently incompatible. I would advise going with Corsair Value RAM, which can OC more than the kingston and is also just better.

There will not be a 6000+ abailable lol.

Re:It will work at DDR 400. The MSI board supports it, in fact it can go MUCH higher with OCing.

I wouldn't get Kingston though i would get OCZ, or Corsair, higher quality. Kingstons usually are unstable and dont OC much.

Get Double Sided if possible, they are faster.

Re:DDSS (or DSDS) is not in the manual; however, it "may" be functional at DDR400; but the manufacturer didnt want to take a chance with incompatible DIMMs.

I plan for Kingston DIMMs or something like that.

Re:From what I remember…

DDSS will give you DDR400

However, if it were me, I would only use single-sided sticks!

FWIW: Just remember, Bill Gates said we will never need more than 640K on system memory.
