New installation of WinXP SP2. No icons on the screen?! [ghost image] [network neighborhood]

Q: Its been a looooong time since I have a fresh install of WinXP. (Ive always used a .)

Anyway, there are no icons (IE, My Computer, , etc.) on my screen.

What did I do wrong?

Re:that's the default. right click on desktop and choose proerties. go to the desktop tab and then click the custimize desktop button. now check the checkmarks for the various icons.

Re:On a default install of XP, the "XP" start menu is configured.
You have to change it to "Classic Start Menu".
