Noob Question: Graphics Driver Update [geforce 4 ti4200] [meg card]

admin / July 4th, 2010/ Posted in Computer Help / No Comments »

Q: I have an Asus 8X AGP card V9280/TD 128 Meg. I would like the latest nVidia drivers to upgrade. Yet I have never done this before and Ive read that the nVidia drivers are notorious for leaving the remains of the old driver when it is removed. How does one go about step-by-step removal and installation of new drivers?

Also, how does one determine whether there is a conflict with the current driver? My computer gets the yellow dots pixel random in nature. Plus, my cursor has two lines that the survey. I have also seen fit to try the other PC Neverwinter Nights game to play. The game freezes or I have other crashes. Can the firewall, et. Al. intefer here?

Thanks for your patience and take the time to read this.

Best Answer: just install the new one, it will overwrite the older driver

Re:666 is lucky?. I hope so, I'm always in need of some :)

Re:DUH! My bad, guy. Thanks for answering the obvious anyway. By the way, are you aware that your second post to me was lucky #666?!

Re:"My question still remains, however, where do I go to find the driver in order to be able to uninstall said driver; what are the steps to do this?"

Those instructions are found in the third item listed under the helpful hints I linked for you above. Specifically:

Before installing new drivers make sure you uninstall all NVIDIA display drivers from the Windows Control Panel. Browse to the Start Menu > Windows Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and search for "NVIDIA Windows Display Drivers" or "NVIDIA Display Drivers" and select remove.

Re:Thanks for the responses and the link. My question still remains, however, where do I go to find the driver in order to be able to uninstall said driver; what are the steps to do this? Thanks again.

Re:What he said. Plus follow the directions at the nvidia driver d/l site here link (http://www.nvidia.com/object/driver_installation_hints.html)

Re:simply uninstall the old driver, and install the new driver, most of the files the new driver writes will over write the "remnant files" anyway. the only concern would be if you where going from an nvidea card to an ati card, then you might have some bizarre driver issues.
