Q: I tried to do a http:// ($ MySite) / messageview.cfm? Catid = 36 u0026amp; threadid = 343 357 still got the same result u0026quot; can not see the other computer u0026quot, I went around the neighborhood to check on the workgrooup name and there is an error message tha said u0026quot, list of server for this is not currently available u0026quot;. good for one thing that I have this computer from the office before and it is connected to a server. Now how can I reconfigure this computer so it will not look for the server? This computer has a dual boot workstation from NT4.0 to 98 to win

Re:1) yes
2) having problem witht the dual boot computer when i boot in nt i can't see the other computer and when i boot the sec. os(98') it's the same.
but on my sec. computer i could see the mine plus the dual boot computer( probable it's bec. of ipx/spx).

thank you

Re:I'm a little confused… could you clarify this for me?

1) How many computers do you have on the network? I'm presuming two, one win98SE and one winNT/win98 dual boot, correct?

2) Are you having problems with the dual boot computer? And if so, which OS are you booting up into (win98 or nt) when you have the problem because this makes a difference. It's hard, for me at least, to isolate the problem because I'm not sure which OS you're booting up to.

<< how do i reconfigure this computer so it won't go searching for the server? >>

If you're asking this for a win98 OS, it's in the network settings and should have a check on something like &;Log on to NT domain at start up&; Uncheck this and the computer won't search for a domain.

I learned networking the hard way, reading and experimenting…. so take your time and don't rush things. Troubleshoot and come back and post questions. In time, you'll get it :-)

No need to rush.. hee hee. Good luck. Report back what you get

Re:well i tried ipx/spx protocol and i could see the nt/98 but it can't see the 98se even i add client like the netware. in the nt/98 whenever i switch to 98' it's still the same&;nothing&;. now, is there a way to fix this?

Re:thanks but it's still the same on the nt/98 (dual OS)computer. i even reinstall the nt software. but for some reason the 98' computer had no icon in the entire network, i'm using a linksys 5 port 10/100 kit that come with 2 network card. i put both the same username and the same . i use &;client for microsoft logon&; as the primary logon. gee i'm getting crazy with this!

Re:If the computer was joined to a domain at work and was never removed….

1. Right-click on the Network Neighborhood icon and select &;Properties&;.
2. You will see the computer name and the domain or that the machine currently belongs to.
3. If it says domain and then the name of some domain, click on the change button and then check the box for and put in the name. Keep things simple and just name your &;&;. Make sure that all of your other 9x machines are also calling it &;&;
4. Once you have finished the changes, reboot the machine and see what you get.

Let me know if that does it or not.

-Mike
