Q: What the heck is this strange, this is the message that comes up in dos to boot my machine
i really off to boot my computer with the XP CD and that worked fine, but I really want to start my computer without the CD, any ideas?

EDIT: I finally got it all out, my bios change the boot order of my hard drvies when I re-formatted and partitioned my C drive, so my other drive was the boot disk, which is why Windows wouldnt start without CD . Thanks for any help anyways

Best Answer: Im guesssing win xp:

Windows XP users

1. Insert the Windows XP bootable CD into the computer.
2. When prompted to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key.
3. Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows.
4. Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key and pressing enter.
5. You will then be prompted for your administrator password, enter that password.
6. Copy the below two files to the root directory of the primary hard disk. In the below example we are copying these files from the CD-ROM drive letter, which in this case is "e." This letter may be different on your computer.

copy e:\i386\ c:\
copy e:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\

7. Once both of these files have been successfully copied, remove the CD from the computer and reboot.

Re:Crap, I didn?t realize you had XP.

If you installed XP over 95, 98, 2000 try
This (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314057&Product=winxp). I didn't really read over what this article says so I hope it helps.

Re:also, check your boot order and put your hard drive up top.

Re:One common mistake is to have a non bootable disk in the floppy drive and forgetting it is there and you can recieve that error. You can also try FIXBOOT from recovery console.

Re:yea, i thought that looked like a good article at first but unfortunately it is for win 2000 and i got xp installed, so the people at microsoft wont give me that program
