ODD, ODD networking problem with Yahoo IM [netgear mr814] [networking problem]
Q: Freindss Got a Netgear MR814 v2 router that I set for him, two PCs connected to the cable internet.
He claims that before we set up the router, they can always send photos via Yahoo IM with no problem. Now when they try to send a photo, she immediately kicked off Yahoo IM if the other party accepts the pic. I personally witnessed this many times yesterday, and I was really shocked. One of the machines were brand new the day I set the router, and Yahoo IM was not installed on this, and re-installed on both machines more than once or twice.
Ive checked all the router settings I can think of. According to Yahoo IM, uses port 80 for FTP in and out, and Ive even tried a port (21) that does not work. I checked the Windows firewall (Both machines are XP Home), nor was enabled. I even went so far as to disable the router firewall. No help.
I home network set up between the two machines as well, but I do not see what that would have to deal with this particular problem, Yahoo IM.
Best Answer: That might be in the "hidden" Sender: header as opposed to the Reply-To: header. Tell your Outlook to show the full/extended headers. Spammers can put anything they want on the From: header.
In general, Outlook will choose one of the following headers to get the reply address:
Reply-To: (first choice)
Sender:
From:

Re:I know that it worked fine before he got the router. He has a P4 HP machine that he used to send me pics on via Yahoo IM. Once we setup the router, we lost that functionallity.
Re:Interesting. Have you gone directly to the modem, bypassing the router and trying again, just to make sure the isp hasn't blocked yahoo? Bellsouth.net blox them as default.
Then I suggest you go to yahoo and see what ports they use to transfer files on and attempt to open those ports on the router.
Re:DSL router? It's cable internet.
Router because he's got two machines, and may get a laptop in a few months, hence the need for the WAP.
Tried the DMZ already. No help.
Re:Try putting him on the dmz. Why a router? Sharing a couple of boxes? Is there a dsl router also?
