Online purchases of software . OEM / DSP / Retail [oem dsp] [oem versions]
Q: I can no discussion about the risks or benefits of the online purchases of software companies that DSP and OEM versions versus Retail. Im certainly not the only one getting these daily e-mails with a link to these cheap software sites with a very strange URL. Not usually skeptical that my trust in them is quite low.
Anybody have experience, knowledge of these sites and what they offer? However I do not need box, manual, technical support, etc., but do not want to buy illegal software either.
I do not know if I should post the URL links for examples and so avoid censored and beaten by a moderator will I ask permission first .
Cheers .
Re:With trashy vendors, I'd be concerned not only about being sold counterfeit licenses (or no licenses at all), but also what they're going to do with my credit-card info later :Q
Re:As stated above; best to check with the manufacturer if the site is legit.
Re:Even if it is OEM it should come with a COA from the company
especially Microsoft … some other companies do not use the
COA, then you have to rely on other methods, such as Hologram
CD as proof it is not a fake

The COA may not exist or may be a copy.
I see software sold without the COA, just the serial # and/or unlock code because it's OEM … is this a problem? It's not inherently illegal right?
Re:A lot of these sites resell Volume License Copies of programs
according to Microsoft as I asked them once about a particular
site & they had already known about it and what they sell.
Basically, most software makers, will not give you support
for products purchased thru a non authorized resller .. Also,
some of those sites, might steal or abuse your credit card.
Check with the software company first about any site like that.
Also check the BBB listing for where they say they are at.
Re:I am of the opinion that if something sounds to good to be true, it probably is.
The downloads may not be clean; they could be warezed/cracks.
The COA may not exist or may be a copy.
If you were to try it; by all cases use a method that if it turns out to be illegit; you can get your $$ back via a chargeback of some type without major effort on your end.
Places that offer 25-30% off may be volume resellers.
Anything more of a discount should raise a red flag. Check with the OEM about such sites.
