P4 2.4 idling at 76 degrees . Celsius. [definate] [celsius]
Re:ok installed the new bracket, heatsink is secured properly….. still at 74* idle.
Any other suggestions, does any1 know of any problems with this mobo.
I'll look for some1 that has a diff mobo and see if i can processor swap.
ill try to push the cpu and see if it crashes, it hasnt yet.
im a little peeved, dont feel like rma-ing anything, bah what to do.
i might trash this mobo, get a new, good one (raid/sata, the works) and put that mobo and this cpu in my personal comp, and put my 423pin 1.7 n this comp.
what a waste of a mobo tho
Re:hey guy – don't bring religion or politics into threads. it turns into something rather nasty.
(I'm strongly Christian, into apologetics and theological musings, and a Republican, but I know where to pick my fights).
and for the rest of you…. shush… now…. don't say anything… really….
Re:Vicodin – The answer is that we are not all God's children. We were born God's creatures (created ones). Jesus was the only beggoten Son and the Firstborn among many brothers. You can only be a Son by being born of the Father in Spirit as He is Spirit. Therefore you must be born again to be God's Son. Thus God makes His enemy His Son. This is truly a miracle. This may be off-topic, but I couldn't help myself.
Re:Unbelievable…:D
You keep running that cpu at 76c and a new bracket or heatsink will look pretty cheap…i/expressions/rolleye.gif
Re:Buy a new heatsink? Why be cheap when it comes to your CPU?
Re:crap i forgot i had something relevant to say. does any1 know how much these brackets run for? the one place that carries em is out of stock and they are on ebay, where the bidding starts at $9…. linkage:
http://search-desc.ebay.com/search/search.dll?srchdesc=y&query=P4+Retention+Bracket+with+Back+Plate&MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&ht=1&SortProperty=MetaEndSort
oh and why aint my urls auto parsing?! its checked on
bah i did this one manually (http://search-desc.ebay.com/search/search.dll?srchdesc=y&query=P4+Retention+Bracket+with+Back+Plate&MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&ht=1&SortProperty=MetaEndSort)
Re:BUT ITS NOT OFF TAHT BAD!!! *the jester yells as he holds his heatsink to his cpu*
Re:I dont' think dried up thermal compound would cause it to run that high. My guess would be an incorrectly mounted heatsink, your fan not working properly, or whatever program you are using to read the temps is confused.
Edit: Just saw this comment:
my plastic bracket on th mobo is cracked and is allowing one end of the heatsink to tilt up ever so slightly
That's probably your problem.
but that shouldnt allow the cpu to go 30 deg over its standard operarting temp
Surely you jest?

yeah i was doin a little more reading, my paste prolly dried up by now reducing its heat transfering ablilities, but it was hot even right after i installed.
i never checked the temps when i 1st got the comp, i didnt care too much about it, it was for our store. but i do remember did play some games on it when we 1st got it, so i prolly cracked it bringing it home to use as an xtra lan box at meh lan. and i know u all were ever so interested to hear that.
Re:If the bracket is cracked and allowing the heatsink to tilt at all, it most assuredly can and will overheat. It needs pressure to make a good mount, in order to transfer heat properly.
Get a new bracket, they sell them.
