PLEASE HELP: Wireless networking just works! [linksys wrt54g] [chipset drivers]
Q: what Ive seen problems with DirectX and I tried to install a new version of VIA Hyperion chipset drivers. when I installed, I went to my laptop, connected to the Internet via a wireless network. the link wouldnt work, even my wireless card (D Link DWL-630 g) indicating that a message is received. I uninstalled the chipset drivers and installing the old, but still does work. My router is a Linksys WRT54G. The other weird thing is that I tried to log into the setup on IP: 192.168.1.1, but my password does not work. I can not setup.

Re:ok, but the thing that puzzles me is that this occured when i installed new chipset drivers for my main desktop computer. so, im thinking it may have screwed with my ethernet card or something. im still tinkering with settings and trying to get things to work. thanks a lot.

Re:The laptop does not connect wirelessly.
It means that either the Laptop?s basic Network is not set correctly (which is the issue as approached in my first post), or the Wireless is not set correctly between the Router and the Laptop.
Assuming that checking the basic Network went well and every thing looks like it should.
Use the Wired computer to access the Router and configure the Wireless part.

i have a modem, which is connected to the router which is connected through an ethernet cable to my main computer. and then, i have a laptop connected wirelessly.

Re:i have already reset the router. i have cable. i dont have any system tray icon. my ip address does start with 192. also, in network and dial-up connections in control pannel, i go to local area connection, and there is one tab called general, but not one called sharing. on the laptop there is. on the laptop i selected "allow internet connection sharing" but it said there wasnt a connection to be shared. why dont i have that "sharing" tab on my main computer?

If want to take a look at the router, you can reset it back to factory defaults. This will bypass the password (and all the other settings you have established).
Are you using the wireless connection to access the firmware (192.168.x.x)? If that is the case, then it shows that you are connected to the router. Right-click on the little networking icon in your system tray, click "status" and move onto the "support" tab. Do you have am IP address that begins with 192.? Do you have a default gateway?
It could be that the router has dropped the connection to the modem. Check the cables, then pull out the power cables of both devices, let them rest for 30 secs, and turn first the modem on, then the router.
Are you on a DSL platform? It could be a problem with the password being stored on the router.

Re:In General, you can debug the Network Settings of a computer by following these steps.
Step One. Check the Network parameters in the Computer's Device Manager. Make sure that the Network Card drivers are installed correctly; i.e. there is No IRQ conflict, and No Ghost installation. http://www.ezlan.net/faq#ghost
