Q: I just installed Mandrake Linux 8.0 for the first time. Everthing works fine except for the modem. I first tried to install kppp Raccordez to the internet and it said it could not find dev / modem. I then tried to go into the hardware configuration and shows the . When I go to configure I get an error like u0026quot; modprobe: Can module isa pnp u0026quot;
I localize to know how to setup my modem or reconfigue. I also made sure that my modem was supported by linux.

Also Ive noticed is that when I go to / dev / modem dir.

If this is not a file or you can help thanks

Re:Thanks I will try that.

Re:You may have to set the DNS server IP addresses manually in KPPP. If that doesn't do it then you've got a truly strange problem. Ever time I've been able to get KPPP (or X-ISP, I use both) to dial out and connect all the programs have seen the net connection.

Re:Thanks for the help. I am now able to dial out and connect to my ISP.

Now I just need to get one of the browsers to reconize that I have a connection.

I was trying to use Netscape or Konqurer. I type in a web address and it just times out.

Any Ideas?

Thanks again,

Re:what is the exact model and typr of modem you have?

Re:Which com port is it on (or rather which com port is it)? You sound like you need a symlink for /dev/modem. Depending on the com port of the modem it will be one of the following /dev/ entries:

Com1: /dev/ttyS0
Com2: /dev/ttyS1
Com3: /dev/ttyS2
Com4: /dev/ttyS3

As root type (replace the x with the correct number from above):
ln -s /dev/ttySx /dev/modem

Then go back to kppp. If it still doesn't work come back and we'll try to help.
