this set Weve got and what I want to do, I really want to connect our two small networks .

Comp1 /—- Comp 2
Comp2 —- —- — u003e u003e Router Cable Modem (Internet) Cable Modem Router —- u003e Comp 1
u003c —- — – / — – Comp 3

If it helps . were both using Linksys routers .

Best Answer: you can also connect one of the computers with a Rj45 LAN cable. see if you router has the RJ45 port. most of them has four ports. you can connect one wirelessly and one on wire. that would be cheap.

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=rj45 or you can go to and computer shop to buy it very cheap.

Re:Don't know if you can set cable connections to do routing like that, can you guy? Especially if the ISP is using any type of firewall where the two segments are on opposite site of them (generally in soho connections I think). VPN would probably be the best way to go.

Re:Well you could do it with VPN. It gets spendy though. You'd have to have a router that supports at least 3 concurrent VPN sessions, plus have win2k domain servers on each end to authenticate the logins. Plus you'd have to have static IP's on both ends, unless you did something like DNS2Go to register your DHCP addy.

Re:guyII,

Is there just one cable modem in the mix? If so, what's the point of having two physical segments?

If you have two cable modems in the mix, I'd imagine you could setup some kind of routing table in one of the Linksys units (using the IP address of the other unit as the gateway) to allow the two segments to communicate.

Re:I don't understand your diagram
computer 1 connects to computer 2
computer 2 connects to a routerA which then connects to a cable modem
the cable modem connects to a routers A and B
router B connects to computer 1
computer 3 connects to computer 3

it doesn't make sense but that's what it looks like to me. Anyways, if you want to connect 2 networks, you're gonna need a hardware/software NAT router but both networks must connect to that NAT router.

Please be more detailed though =)
