Q: Im trying package to install on my machine. Ive tried using both Red Hat 6.1 and 7.0 I have a 724 Yamaha based sound, which is now supported by ALSA

I downloaded the latest version of the driver from the ALSA site, and tried to install a instructions.

When them I try the drivers to compile with the u0026quot; u0026quot, run make install, per instructions of the INSTALL document, I get the following errors:

cannot create symbolic link include / isapnp.h to . Support / isapnp.h open surgery is not permitted
error 1
[subject sndversions.h]
error 2

Subsequently when I try to do modprobe, I get an error u0026quot, unable to sound module u0026quot;

Am I just found close to, or this thing to refuse to compile for some reason, and how can I fix this?

Best Answer: It is well known that Ubuntu is not the easy distro that many claim it to be.

Try something like Mandriva or PCLinuxOS instead. These distros don't suffer from the problems that Ubuntu does because they are better written and are not rushed out every six months even if the new version isn't ready.

Re:Still haven't answered my question: are you root while doing this?

Changing the permissions on those files is NOT the problem. If you're not root you probably cannot create files in the directories where the symbolic links need to be.

Thanks.

Re:operation not permitted

is the key man, it's a permision error somewhere, whether you aren't root or the permision on the file is 0 or something…
