Problem Connecting to Internet with Windows 2000 [ethernet card] [broadband connection]
Q: I need help. Any suggestions are appreciated. Any ways, I have a broadband connection and my ethernet card is configured to automatically obtain IP address via DHCP. The IP addresses were all correct when I received an ipconfig do u0026quot; / all u0026quot, in the command prompt. But then IE or a Windows application that uses the Internet does not work at all. I tried all possible configurations in IE, but to no avail. It seems there might be some service that has the conflict. Any hows, thanks for your help next time.
Best Answer: Is there no way to download the driver for the network card to another computer and transfer it over, on a floppy, CD, USB drive or something? After all, if among what you're asking for is a torrent then you must have some way to download something to help you out.

Re:Actually, all the dns and ip are all good through dhcp. I pinged www.yahoo.com and there's a reply, so I don't think there's any problem with the dns.

Re:your DNS is toasty … being able to ping external ip addresses [try this one: 209.12.9.30] and not being able to hit domain names smacks of having a dns misconfiguration.
on my win2k ICS setup here, my laptop's ip is 192.168.0.33, with route set to 192.168.0.1 and dns set to 192.168.0.1. Make sure that your DNS is set to either be automagic or that it's pointing to the routing computer [as it handles the dns requests].

Re:I can ping the ip addresses without any problem. Just that IE doesn't work, the error message from IE is the usual "Cannot find server" when you put in an invalid address like "www.adfssdds.com" in IE. But in my case, I put a valid address "www.yahoo.com" and I've got the error.

Re:Can you open the other computer with your comp right now? It's weird that you should be able to get the internet connection without any problem except that you are using modem to connect to the Internet then you should configure the ip address. In this case you just need to plug the cable and everyting should be set. Try to ping it first and see if you can see the other computer.

Re:Are you able to ping domain names from the command prompt? IP addresses? Are your DNS server settings configured properly (obtain automatically or specified directly)? Are you getting any specific error messages from your windows applications?
