Program to back 100s of gigs DVD automatically? [hard drives] [gigs]
Q: Heres my dilemma.
I have about 300 files with a weight of 700-1500 MB each on a pair of hard disks. I want them all on DVD back, but I do not want to sit and make each DVD (a few hundred DVDs) 0.
Can I just burn all the folders I select to back up and have a program just start fires and just when Let me recommend a new DVD? And just continue to work at burning more?

Re:I took a hard drive, put it in an external enclosure, and wrote a batch file to copy my folders to it. I run it every night, and it only copies the files that have changed or new files and folders.
Now, I know that some people think that backing up a hard drive to another hard drive is not a good idea. But, I'd hate to make a hundred backup DVDs, then try to find a specific file on a hundered DVDs.
At least this way I have my files on 2 hard drives… and it would be highly unlikely that BOTH these drives would fail at the same time. If either drive failed, I'd replace it and copy the files back to it. It works for me!

Re:If I had 100's of Gigs of movies and tv shows, I don't think I'd want them on DVD as rar files cause then I'd have to put them back on a hard drive if I ever wanted to watch them. I bet I would never end up doing that as well (hehe they would end up as a bunch of files on disk that I'd probably forget about and never get to again).
Not sure what to tell ya man, I just take a night here and there after my drives get full and burn about 40-50 discs a night. It might take some time but is not too bad after you get the bulk done and then if you keep up the archiving.

Compressing these files will not decrease the file size as these files are in already a compressed format (will decrease few kbs though). Just use your burning program as most burning programs already have the option you're looking for.
Compression wasn't the point. 
WinRAR can basically put every file you want to back up into one uncompressed .rar archive, and if you set it to do so during the procedure, you can make it automatically split that part into however many equally-sized parts are required to fit your needs.
IE. Backing up 100GB of data in 1GB parts, for example, will result in 100 little RAR files which can be burned seperately and rejoined then extracted on the HDD later.

Re:This is where Blu-Ray and HD-DVD will be useful. It's a PITA to backup a lot of data.
