question about running 2 sticks of 3200 ram and 1 stick of 2100 ram [pc 3200 ram] [pc 2100 ram]
Q: I have 2 512 sticks of PC 3200 ram. If my old PC 2100 ram back into my PC it will under clock 3200-2100? Id be better off with just the 3200?
Best Answer: The diagnostic tool is crap. Your RAM, if recognized and operational, is fine. There is a possibility that the tool did not recognize the module if it is from a manufacturer that is not mainstream.
Re:its a 533 fsb and remeber i cant even get in the bios…..doesnt show the screen to get in sense i just got a new HDD y i dont know
Re:is it the 800mhz fsb, 533fsb, 400mhz fsb?
Re:since you are using a P4 don't even bother sticking in that pc2100 stick. You'll have more ram but you are going to start that P4 by reducing the bandwith that much~ remembe rthe P4 is extremely sensitive to bandwith and the more the better. This is probably the only case where i'd say stick with 1 gig of fast ram vs 1.5gigs of slower ram
Re:p4 2.4
120 maxtor
and the usual
1 gig of patriot ram
Re:what are the specs of your computer
Re:You won't see an increase in speed by adding another 512mb so I don't think you should risk any instability merely to add some more space.
Re:yes i had the 2100 runnign just fine, i took it out and put a gig of 3200. im thinking of running 1.5 gig of ram. will is cuase a problem.

Well that would depend on what front side bus you are running at…if you are running at higher than a 133mhz FSB, then it would be overclocking your PC2100..if you are already running at 133mhz FSB and not using dividers, then your PC3200 is running at PC2100 speeds anyway..you didn't exactly much detail…
most motherboards (actually the bios) can detect the 2100 stick, then just run the FSB and mem speed in proportion to one another, so you can have a 333mhz fsb w/ 133mhz memory.
Re:i have 1 gig already and its a old 512 of pc 2100. i cant even get to the bios on my mobo, so i dont know wath the fsb is at. its just says 200mhz in cpuz so im guessin the 3200 is at sotck 3200 speeds

Re:yes, it would clock the pc3200 @ 2100, unless you turned it higher in the bios, possibly making the 2100 stick unstable. How much memory do you have on the 2100 stick? at 1gb already, it probably isn't worth it.
