quick question logon XP professional. [traditional windows] [menu changes]
Q: He-977 503 After the way users log in to the traditional Windows XP Professional logon change, is there a way to change it back to the “welcome screen” setup?
Ive tried for a while and seems as if the whole network connections menu changes when switching from the first time and I can not find an option to switch back. Thank you.

sorry I didnt get back sooner, I've been pretty busy this week. Assuming your machine is not a domain member this should be enough to get you started:

If your machine is a domain member you wont be able to use the welcome screen. If it was a domain member it will be a pain but not impossible.
thanks again…I ended up pulling it off of the domain and switching, and after going through all the trouble, they decided that it didn't really need to be on the domain in the first place. So problem solved. Thanks for all your help, I appreciate it.

Re:Yes…in theory I should have posted this here to begin with…but I had been working on this and a few other frustrating problems for the better part of the day and was hoping for a quick fix. As usual, sitting down and thinking about it and having a post in the correct forum worked.
domain was the problem…took that computer out of that domain and I was able to switch it.
Thanks for the help.
Re:Heh. The thing that bugs me about this forum is wayyyy OT posts (I don't mean AT OT either) being placed anywhere and everywhere. Networking questions in General Hardware, for instance. Or questions about a software program in General Hardware. There, I said it.

1728 post and still no clue eh? That said, if your machine is a member of a domain (and it sounds like it might be), you can not use the welcome screen. You will have to switch back to non-domain status to get the option to use it.

Re:This is pulled from MS.
Fast User Switching is not available on computers that are members of a network domain.
Re:I think I understand what you mean now, you're getting the user control panel item that looks like this. () as opposed to the one that allows you to switch to/from fast user switching. I dont know off hand how to get the welcome screen re-enabled but I think I've got a laptop here that isnt a member of the domain I can mess with later this afternoon, I'll let you know if I come up with anything.
Re:thanks for the response.
the problem is that the configuration screen on the machine I'm working on is different then my laptop. Both use XP Pro, but the desktop uses the windows-style logon and the laptop uses the welcome screen. The laptop has the configuration you're talking about…but the desktop only has the options I've described. I can also reach the screen you described from the networ panel on the desktop (as well the way you described), but I can't switch back from there. Another alternative would be to have the system login while maintaining the password.
Thanks.
Re:threads get answered in OS quickly, and you'll find that there are people here who actually care to give you correct answers as well.
I'm not entirly clear what you mean by your last question; guy gave you the location you can use to turn fast user switching (aka "the welcome screen") on. If you're looking for a better way of managing users I would use the "local users and groups" mmc snap-in (right click on "my computer">manage>system>local users and groups).

Re:under users it only gives me the listing of the users created on the computer with the option to add or remove, the properties for that set don't have anything useful and then I have the option to change the administrator password.
Re:Control Panel > User accounts > "Change way users log on or off" > check "Use the welcome screen"
