Rounded IDE cables: a rip-off? [rounded ide cables] [air resistance]

Q: This round IDE cables, what are they for?

Anyone take regular cables and put them just down the case or the walls, so the drag is minimal. Round IDE cables are also a lot harder to break because you can not pull them through the cable itself – you need to pull them through the connector. So is it worth paying $ 12 or so cable?

Re:they make it easier to snake the cables around each other. I had a situation where I needed a 2 foot cable and the closest thing I could find was a 3 footer. It left me with 1 foot of cable just dangling and getting in the way.

Re:Numerous reviews have shown no benefit to them assuming the case has proper cooling to begin with. Some people just like the look.
