Running WinXP on a P3 1.1GHz w / 512 MB RAM [toshiba satellite notebook] [awhost32]
Q: The system is very slow, cpu utilitization is very high (but Im somewhere on the PC running the remote) so this may be caused by AWHOST32 (I believe that pcAnywhere is the service name).
So apart from what might be the remote programming, the user complains that the PC takes forever to boot (Toshiba laptop) and that a long time to load programs, no quick optimiztions I can do things in WinXP accelerate?
What to his page file size?
Thanks
Re:sobig.f can make a winxp machine slower than crap. Like others have said, clean it up (ru spybot/antivirus/uninsall unused programs) because that system is plenty fast enough for XP
and why the hell would you use pcanywhere to remote XP? use remote desktop, its ALOT faster (xp pro should be used in a corporate enviruonment, if its xp home, dump it for pro)
Re:Your computer has plenty of power to run XP without lifting a finger at it. So the prob here has to do with something running on the system in the background? Maybe a total format of the computer and install all the correct drivers will help.

Why don't you not guess and look at the task manager? "Going on a hunch" occasionally has its place, but usually isn't the best place to start.
Re:Defrag the drive, turn all off effects, run virus scan, clean the registry out, un-install all spyware, expired trials etc.
Re:Pc anywhere was installed TODAY, because of the complaint of a slow system. So pc anywhere is not causing the slowness, but it is causing the cpu utilization i think.
Thanks
Re:Well, I'd guess that some of the slowness is due to the slow, laptop hard drive. But you say the CPU utilization is high – what process in Task Manager are using the CPU? If you don't see any processes grabbing the CPU, I'd suspect a virus before hardware problems.
Re:first have you turned off ALL the eye candy ? fadding effects , tranisions , everything. also stop PC anywhere from loading on startup , if it's set that way. is this only while on battery or all the time ?
good luck
