Samsung CDRW burns blank discs [samsung 32x] [abit bh6]
Q: A friend has a Samsung 32x CDRW.
Using EZCD Roxio 5 platinum on win98se. Abit
Old Bh6 w / P2 400 u0026 128 PC100.
When burning a disc (data or audio), the whole thing goes normally. Watch as it burned, no errors, you can see the data is burned on the disc.
However when you try to browse to the disk is empty. If you burn an audio CD on a player, the tracks seem to see and play with time counting and all, but there is no audio. Data discs just to see if blank.
Whatup with that?
Thanks.

Re:Haven't tried it in my system since moving it over, but we are only talking about a few days here. I was burning discs on it in my system a week ago, with EZ CD Creator.

Re:Have you tried the burner in your system recently, like after you posted this thread? Try another cd burning program. I use Record now max and never had any problems; got it off Kazaa.

Re:Ok,
Tried setting finalize disc (it was set at just session), turned on DMA mode, installed latest adaptec ASPI driver, removed and reinstalled HD controller drivers (Intel 440BX). All same result.
Actually, now it's worse. Before doing all that stuff, it would read all discs normally besides the ones it burned. Now it won't play regular music CDs anymore either. It gets an error that it was unable to access the disc in digital mode and will now switch to analog. This never happens, however, it just repeats the error every time you try to play. If you attempt to go into the drive properties in Media Player, the box just flickers on the screen for a split second and goes away.
It still reads data CDs normally.
If I open EZ CD creator and get CD Info, it shows all the proper info on the disc (number of tracks, size of burned files, etc…).
Any other ideas? The CDRW was working fine in my system for about 6 months before I took it out to put in this system. This is a clean install of Win98SE. The only things installed are all windows updates & latest drivers, MS Office, Photoshop, EZCD Creator, AOL, McAfee Antivirus.
Bad cable?
I did notice on another forum that came up in a google search somebody with these same symptoms, but with different hardware also on Win98se. Nobody had ever responded, but I sent him an email and he said he just wound up reformatting and reinstalling and the problem went away. Not sure if that would help here, being that this is a clean install. Non of the proggies installed should have had any impact on the burner.
TIA,

What speed are you burning the disk. I believe with that slow of a computer if you try to burn it at a high rate you will just burn a bunch of garbled nothing. Try it at the slowest speed.
I had (maybe) the same CD burner on a PII 350 mHz and even if I selected 32x, it would only burn at about 8x. And it would do that automatically and I never had a problem with burning unreadable discs. I always thought it was the generic media, but now that I've upgraded, it burns those same discs at 32x without a problem.

Maybe the software is not closing the session on the cd when it finishes burning. I don't know how to do that with ezcd. Check for a multisession checkbox or finalize option anywhere.
Didn't think about that, I bet thats the problem…

Re:I have tried the discs in another pc with same results. This drive also came out of another pc, so I know the drive itself works.
I'll check on the finalize session and burn speed today.
Thanks for the suggestions.
