Send me a PC for a customer [celeron 2] [quot]
Q: I would not go to the PC for the person to build, I just want a prebuilt machine.
Im looking in the area of $ 600 with 17 “LCD is no printer, and just having a basic machine.
I a quote Dell on a machine with a Celeron 2.4 w/512MB 40GB HDD CD-RW and a 17 “LCD for $ 600 right. I am a bit annoyed by Dell lately, I thought maybe someone else a chance to win over.
Suggestions give me?
Re:Dell Home has a Dimension 3000 P4 2.8 533bus for $599 with a free 17" LCD upgrade right now.

If you're feeling frisky, I guess you could go for an eMachines. I'd rather detach my retinas, but to each their own…
It's almost painfull to read "will not build". I'm trying with all my will to not say anything if you know what I mean…
The problem is, for a comp at this price level, you are not going to be able to beat an OEMs buying power, which they have lately had to pass on to the consumer because of fierce competition. As much as I hate to admit it, at this price point, buying prebuilt with monitor, legal software just makes the most sense. (I still have cobbled some $400 Sempron systems together for a couple people, but it was mostly because I have monitors and CD-ROM drives lying around.)
To OP: If you don't want to deal with Dell and Gateway (or it's subsidiaries) then you are pretty much stuck with HP or Comcrap, or maybe try Monarch to see if they can match the prices of one of the bigger builders, but it doesn't seem too likely. Especially if you need Windoze and a monitor…
Thanks for clearing it up for me, I really didn't feel like typing that much this morning so that I could try and make the other poster understand the reason I have for not wanting to build a machine for this customer. The other point I have is that I don't want the customer running to me everytime something goes wrong with the machine, that's usually the case when you build a machine for someone.
I know exactly what you mean. I am not sure if Monarch provides tech support for their boxes or not, but it might be worth checking. I have also learned that trying to wean computer illiterate people to Firefox instead of Internet Explorer can help cut back on the tech support calls. I have removed more spyware than I can count from IE just taking it in the arse, TERRIBLE browser IMHO…
Re:Take a look at http://www.cyberpowersystem.com/Default.asp . I have not bought from them since I build my own, but right now if I was to go prebuilt, these are the guys I would buy mine from and then just add a monitor. Might be just a little more, but they come with a 3 year warranty standard, not the ridiculous 1 yr Dell deal.

Re:YHPM, thank me after you find something.
Re:HP a1110y (http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/cto/computer_customize_accessories_continue.do) + that monitor I mentioned eariler would also fit the bill and its intel everything w/ a P4 516 and 512mb of ram, for 409 after rebate.

For prebuilt you could go w/ one of these monitors 3G Technology GM-171B Black 17" 16ms LCD Monitor 260 cd/m2 450:1 0.264mm Pixel Pitch – Retail (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824218002) from newegg and an Emachines T3302 (http://www.emachines.com/products/products.html?prod=eMachines_T3302) the PC is quite a bit better than the dell you listed and is 399 after rebate (possibly cheaper if you get it at a big box retailer) and the lcd is aprox $160 after rebate, this should meet all your requirements.
Edit: sad to say I'll take Emachines tech support over dells lately aswell.
Errr, Sorry no Emachine for me….I should have mentioned that. I won't deal with Gateway products, the sad thing is before gateway bought them Emachines was even worse.

Re:Too bad that you're annoyed with Dell; as far as prebuilt bare-minimum machines go, they're the best game in town.

Re:Very seldomly do I ever say to buy a dell, but if you want cheap junk.
Re:D00d, get a Dell.
If you don't plan to build, there's Dell, Hp, Compaq, Gateway
There's also Alienware, MonarchComputer, and other small internet-based builders. (Check nVidia/ATI/AMD's sites for partners/where-to-buy)
