Shopping for a video card – I would rather find one that I can flash the BIOS. [micronpc] [video card]

Q: Ok, heres a summary of my situation:

– Our original mainboard lost his ability to function because the PSU blew 3 months ago (was 4 years this Christmas) 977 503 – I got my first then build. My father, after dropping $ 3200 on a wanted to adopt a budget, so I worried. I warned him that he wanted to spend dollar amount would provide such things as ghosting due to some of the hardware he would love to use. Now, he wants it.

The motherboard upgrade I got for him was a Soyo, but since the old NVidia GeForce2 Ultra GPU was the PSU property catastrophe (the card costs $ 500 four years ago this Christmas) I have the 32MB onboard Video.

After reading the card guide on flashing the BIOS, there is a current generation card that is not too expensive that I can flash upgrade? Obviously, I 256-bit version. My father will be using this computer 99% of the time now since I go to college next Fall – so I really do not think PCI Express or AGP 8x matters.

If anyone could suggest a number of cards that can go through this procedure I would appreciate . if I would be able to get to a cheaper card and obviously the performance increase. Thank you.

Re:9800pros you can get for $200…… try newegg

Re:9800 Pro -> 9800 XT

6800NU softmod to 16 pipes

X800 Pro VIVO -> (unlock pipes and OC) X800 XT PE

None of these options are under $250 though.
