Should I give my DSL service for cable modem? [cable modem service] [online cable modem]
Q: I have DSL Hellrizon about two years now. I can not say that it has trouble-free. There is a wide range for optimal cable modem service is now online ($ 29.99 in New Jersey), with free installation. What is the general consensus, the cable is faster and more trouble free than DSL? Do you really speeds drop off when multiple users online? I live in the most populous state in the U.S., so I expect that I share this line with lots o peeps. Give me your suggestions. Thank you.
Re:I have Verizon DSL for nearly two years now and its good service — very few downtimes due to Verizon's circuit. However, I live in Los Angeles, so Verizon situation here is a bit differen than yours.
We also have Adelphia cable modem service out here too. I tried it to get some incredible speeds (over 200k/sec downloads) and I was quite pleased until I started to play online games at night during peak hours. For the most part, it was good, but when there was packet loss, it was quite severe. I stuck with the DSL service because its more consistant for my gaming needs.
All you can do it try out both to see which you like more. You'll never know until then. Most cable places usually give our free install and sometimes the first month is free too, so you really can't lose by trying out.

Re:Why choose? If you can afford it, get both! Check out FatPipe Internet Accellerator (http://www.fatpipeinc.com/home_edit.htm) which will let you load balance across both your connections.

Re:DSL caps as well, in my case 128. I've noticed the fastest downloads I get are from people on cable.
Re:Only bad thing about the cable is the upload speeds. They tend to cap these VERY low. I have had cable for about 2 years and will change to DSL when I move for that one reason.

Re:I have Cable (RR), and Verizon DSL. Both in NY (near NJ), both working very well, no complains.
For any thing that I do, Cable is much faster, even in peak hours the Cable service is still much faster then DSL.
Average Cable downloads 280KB/sec. DSL 66KB/sec.
I don?t have a gamer perspective since I do not use games over the Net.
Re:The quality of cable service varies widely. Just get the cable for a month. If you like it better, cancel the DSL, if it sucks, cancel the cable.
