Slow NIC performance . Anything I can do to speed up? [native drivers] [dell computer]
Q: Hi, have an OEM
I Cnet NIC in a Dell computer. It was nice running with Win2k native drivers, but now that I have WinME installed on the machine, the Internet is very slow. WinME not all drivers for the NIC, so I downloaded the drivers from the website of the manufacturer. Ive tried several drivers, but can not seem to get decent performance. Is there anything I can try to accelerate or my problem?
I also have a modem installed in this machine with the NIC. Would there be some sort of conflict to the network to be poorly run?
TIA,
Sal

Re:Thanks again guy. My NIC sharing an IRQ with the video was the problem. I moved the cards around and now the NIC has its own IRQ and works perfectly. Apparently my NIC didn't like to share IRQ's with anything else.

Re:I'll be darned. Sure enough, it's sharing the same IRQ as my video. What do I do to fix it? Put the card in a different slot? Heh.. That's the only way I new how to fix IRQ conflicts in the past.

Re:Thanks. I'll have to check it out. The ironic thing is that I had a similar problem with a Linksys NIC. It would run perfectly in Win9.x/ME and XP, but would run slow just like this in Win2k. I tried every driver I could find and it never helped, so I bought a different NIC for the machine that I have Win2k on and don't have any problems.
It's not like I get any error messages or anything either. Everything checks out perfectly fine in the Device Manager. It's just that the pages load noticeably slower while surfing the internet. Weird..
Thanks again.

Re:check your IRQs….win2k supports more IRQs…and when going back to WinME…the card may have been forced to share IRQ with some other device…if it's sharing with sound or video…that is NO GOOD….
