Speakers pick up radio stations [rf chokes] [cambridge sound]
Q: I have the Cambridge Audio Works speakers with subwoofer and 2 satellites. They pick up two radio stations and its really hard. Only the left speaker and sub statoins grabs the radio. I went to Radio Shack and got a number of RF coils. They seemed a little help, but not enough. I moved them all the speaker cables, power cord, and all together. It did not work as I would like to see. I still hear the radio quite clear and it is annoying. So I get all the wires wrapped in aluminum foil and it helped some but I can still hear. I tried a combination of both, and the same thing. Any suggestions? This is really annoying.

Re:I get that a lot. There're towers only a mile a way from me. It's become one of my basic tests when buying new speakers. I plug them into the wall, not even the computer, and listen. If I hear music they go back in the box and back to the store. Best Buy must hate me.

Re:I get that sometimes, just try moving any of the cables that connect the sound card and speakers so that they are not near others, especially power cables. You might also try changing the outlet your speakers are connected to.

Re:gauge wont make a difference.. you need shielded wire.
ie: signal channel wire in the center wrapped in insulator wrapped in ground channel wire wrapped in an insulator..

Re:What do you mean in actually putting shields around the wires? Also what gauge wire should I get? If I get too big will it mess anything up?

Re:Try putting actualy shields around the wires. Possibly even try removing the current wires for some shielded ones. Splice the new ones onto the old ones. It might yield surprising results.

Re:What size cable did you use? It would be a real PITA to put bigger wire for these speakers. They are made into the speaker, I would have to take the things apart. I might try it when I get bored one day

Re:I had a similiar problem with my brother's setup. He has a surround system hooked up to his computer. So, I replaced the cable going from the computer to the receiver with a better cable and it fixed itself.
