Stupid simple question about Outlook and Thunderbird email software [thunderbird email] [embarassing question]

Q: haha, this is a rather embarrassing question, but I was not able to find the answer online. I

Well both Outlook and Thunderbird use, but when I installed on two of my computers and I import my webmail . it imports them on my hard drive, but it removes them permanently on my webmail!

This is quite annoying, because that means I can not refer back to my old webmail from other computers. In principle, yes I want the software on my webmail emails copied to my HDD, and leave them on the webmail server too, so I could from other locations . hence copying, not “cut and paste” them to my hard drive.

I know theres some simple setting that you should just check to prevent this, but do you know what Im talking about?

Big thanks for the man or woman who knows what I mean and has the solution for it.

Thanks guy!! That's what I was looking for! Thanks a bunch!

Re:both should have options to not delete mail off the server when it's downloaded. you shouldn't need to switch to imap.

edit: visit guy's links, they will tell you how to do it.

Re:With OE6 it's
Tools>accounts>hi-lite your mail account>properties>advanced tab

Not sure if it's the same with Outlook.

Use imap rather than pop.

Is that all there is to it? I do believe that both my webmails support imap but I am not certain. On top of that, isn't there a setting though, in which you can tell the program not to delete all your webmail after retrieving it?

Thanks for the tip though.
