System freezes when copying large files from CD to HD [a7v] [hd]

Q: On my second system, when I copy a large file (like the Win98 folder to the ) will freeze. I do a reset and the files are usually distorted, I thought. Have not tried to copy the primary yet, did not corrupt a fresh install. Seems like I remember reading something about this on the FIC website but can not remember. I also have lock-ups when moving large files from to . Ideas? This was my primary system until I went to the /Duron setup and had no problems with Maxtor 15g then.
Sys:
win98
FIC PA2013 JI4331 with BIOS (was JI4330)
K6-3 + 450 @ 7200 ATA66 550
Maxtor 15g (primary)
Samsung 6 , 4 g (secondary)
Voodoo3 2k pci
56x CD (sec slave)
Soundblaster vibra16
(no other cards currently)
128m PC100

Re:I had the Maxtor 15g on IDE 1 and Samsung as master on IDE 2 with 56x cd rom as slave. Been busy playing with xmas stuff, so not much time to finish testing. Bah humbug!

Re:How do you have your drives hooked up?
They might have problems when transfering on the same channel.

Re:I don't think its heat. The K6-3+ 450 runs very cool. In the bios, its 31C and its got a large hs/fan with artic silver. I disabled the samsung 6.4 and tried copying the same large files, full cd's, etc to the Maxtor 15g 7200 and haven't gotten any errors. Been running smooth all morning no matter what I do to it. Looks like the Samsung can't handle the transfer for some reason. Think I'll put it in my slower machine with the 3.5g.
Thanks,

Re:I must agree with Bartman and the issues with this particular FIC board. Quite finicky about settings and such. Sounds like you are having controller/DMA issues which would explain the lockups and scrambled data.

Re:The problem is under the sys. The K63-450 @550 is getting to hot and is giving errors (ran into this problem quite a while back) They just dont like to be OC`d for very long, also I would bet the thermal compound is more like brick mortar now (dried out real bad because of the heat produced by the cpu) Just another note… That FIC board was very finicky also if memory serves me correctly… no matter what bios was used…
