Creating a hard drive for backup [gb hd] [device manager]

Q: I just finished my build and have 2 Hitachi 80 GB HD. I installed XP Pro on one and want one for a double backup in case something goes wrong. My problem is that I am prepared to back up and the second hard disk is not seen as a drive in My Computer. It will appear as a disk in Device Manager. Im not sure how to go about activating the station. Can anyone give me some help on startup? Thanks

Why windows wont see the new HD? [device manager] [western digital]

Q: Ok, I bought a 5400 60 gig WD for storage use. Imagine him as a slave to see the bios at startup and even the device manager sees. Yet, when I open up my computer is not there. Andthere is no drive letter assigned in the Device Manager. My main drive is an IBM 7200 1914 gig.
