Q: Hi everyone, my HD

after had a little episode (for the second time – Maxtor 200gig) I installed a new version of Windows on a new 40gig HD as a temp. establish .

However I am with a couple of odd problems when I come to shut down the PC using the normal Start-Off u003e u003e Shutdown

-this takes a long time to turn off and sometimes do not even seem to leave windows! : ((Im

If Start-Logoff u003e u003e u003e Other user-Shutdown, log off and shutdown Windows does, but takes slightly longer than it should . especially if the PC for a while!

Im guess is something a little wrong with the Windows installation or whether there is a background application that Windows cannot seem to belong to disable .

Any ideas what causes this problem and how can I fix it?

Thanks all

– sorry for the long post!

Best Answer: run eventvwr.msc

go to Applications and Services Logs => Microsoft => Windows => Diagnostics-Performance => Operational

Look in the Shutdown Performance Monitoring category for Events

Re:Try installing microsoft's user profile hive cleanup utility. Just install it and it will do its thing at shutdown, you do not have to do anything to run or configure it.

Re:(Regedit) > HKCU>Control Panel>Desktop

Set HungAppTimeout to 1000
AutoEndTasks to 1
WaitToKillAppTimeout to 1000

And if you want a nice 'apparent' speed boost, set MenuShowDelay to 0. Or 25 or whatever.

You'll need to restart explorer to make the changes happen.

Ctrl + Shift + Esc for task manager, close explorer.exe, then File > New Task > Explorer.exe and there you have it.

Hope that helps.
