Thermaltake Big Typhoon or something else? [cpu coolers] [120mm fan]
Q: I got a new 4400 + to $ 250. Was going to wait for the Conroe, but I could not pass this up. I would go for Conroe my main system and have the X2 as a media PC or something similar. Anyway, I have not kept pace with the latest batch of CPU coolers and Im interested in something with a 92-120mm fan that my CPU stays as cool as it can be without TT Big Typhoon H2O.
The recommended that me on another forum, but I just wanted to check whether other suggestions before I buy. Is there anything else TT, Scythe, etc. that I should take? As always, I appreciate any input.
Best Answer: It could be a driver issue. Are you using the latest drivers from nVidia? How about the game, is it patched to the latest version?
Re:I recently purchased the Big Typhoon. With the stock fan, it is very quiet. You have a very low chance of it being the loudest part of your system. It also cools very well. However, I put a new faster fan on mine, as, you know, the Smithfield…..
Re:What jedi said is true, the tuniq tower just isn't stocked everywhere. The ninja plus and the scythe mine are almost identical in madshrimps.com comparisons and lag behind the tuniq by only 1 or 2c. They are also very much less $$$. I'd consider the ninja plus, mine or freezer 64 pro. The thermalrights performed supbar in a lot of tests.
Re:Hmm, thanks for the input. Looks like the Big Typhoon, Ninja+, and Tuniq are on my short list. I'm at work so I won't have a ton of time to dig up info on these today but if anyone has any links to comparos done by reputable sites (i.e. NOT Tom's Hardware), that would be awesome.

It lends itself towards being loud.
I can hardly hear mine even if I put my ear up to it. The fan on it spins quite slowly. You must be thinking of some other heatsink.

Plus there are other heatsinks that IMO are better…
The Scythe Ninja+ comes to mind, In fact I have never seen it beat in a 1 on1 test by a reputable reviewing site!
The Ninja + is just a Ninja with a Scythe silent fan.
There is also the Scythe Mine which is right up there.
Then there is the Tuniq – which is also getting rave reviews.
Then you have the ThermalRight XP 120 or the SI 120.
You also have the new SI 128 which is a sweet heatsink.

Re:I have the Typhoon cooling my A64 3000+ Venice at 2.5GHz and at load it doesn't go above 42 celcius with an ambient of about 20-22 celcius. Idle is about 28 degrees with the same ambients. It is a marvelous cooler and I can barely hear it.
Re:I have Le Typhoon on my P4 and I love it, I will also use it for my 4400+ if thats what I get here in a few weeks or so.
