This “popular” Never Options . [registry tweaks] [cable modem]
Q: Hello friends,
I hv tried these tweaks to the speed of the cable modem to increase. My success rate is almost zero .
1. Registry Tweaks speedguide.net
2. Check for spyware using “Spybot Search and Destroy” and “Adaware 6.0″ 977,503 (in some cases even some DELET files and makes matters worse “Page Can not Be Displayed”

I doing an MSCONFIG to know . experts can work on something . I think we depend a lot on these two for a response spywares

This sounds like you had a nasty spyware installed that made IE dependent on the spyware to properly function (there are certain spyware that do this). Investing in an image program (i.e., norton ghost, drive image) would be good choice if tend to install shareware/trial/freeware programs.

regarding these registry tweaks, if I have a few computers behind a router, do I have to tweak all the computers for the tweaks to work, or will the tweaks work for whichever computer is tweaked? I'm on 1.5Mbps/128Kbps cable on Win2K Pro SP3 and I've applied the following tweaks as recommended by speedguide.net
DefaultTTL – 64
EnablePMTUBHDetect – 0
EnablePMTUDiscovery – 1
GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize – 256960
SackOpts – 1
Tcp1323Opts – 1
TcpMaxDupAcks – 2
MTU – 1500
I've read a conflicting report on navas.com saying that most of these settings are myths and don't work because the OS already set them as such(even though the settings aren't there), but I guess it doesn't harm to specifically set them if they're not already there.

Re:Yup, only option is to move to an area service by Cable vision and sign up for their OOL where u can get 8mb down and 1 mb up.
Or hack your modem, enjoy the blazing fast speeds for an hour or 2, then figure out how to convince the cable company to give you your account back after u stole all their bandwidth (good luck with that tho)

I hv tried it on more than 50 computers of various ISP connections .
I want some real tweaks (may be ur experiences) for increasing performance of system..
