Troubleshooting Router on weekends [linksys router] [massachussets]
Q: Over the past three weekends, I had trouble on the Internet. During the week works well. I have two computers, a network with a Linksys router. If I hook the router disconnet and the cable directly to the computer from the internet service works fine, but when I hook back up through the router I can not get online. I have call AT u0026 T Broadband and the first weekend they said there were some interruptions in Massachusetts, so I accepted that. The second week I called and the tech suggested that I make the router and it worked. I really do not want to have to quit it every weekend like this is when we really need two computers accessible. During the week works well. so I do not know what the problem is and hope that someone there has a suggestion. Thanks for your help.
Best Answer: Limited or No Connectivity mean 2 things:
1.) you are connected using an incorrect Wep key—(try disconnecting from the network & reconnecting & make sure that the wep is typed in correctly.)
2.)there's a firewall software on PC —(Win Vista usually has a pre-installed Norton….try disabling or uninstalling software then browse)
hope this works out for you =)
Re:Ok, I think it is fixed now. I cloned MAC address and it seems to be working fine now with the Router. The only thing I questioned though was why when I went in search of MAC address was it different under the Cable Modem Configuration than the IP Configuration under WINIPCFG. Shouldn't they have been the same number?
Thanks to everyone who helped!
Re:Does this happen on a regular basis, every weekend? When the problem is occurring, does the router pick up a WAN ip address from the provider's dhcp server? I suppose it's possible that someone else may be running a dhcp server on the network (only on weekends?), and sometimes your router picks up an ip from that. If that happens, your ip is not correct, and you will not be able to access the internet.
It's just a theory, and should be able to be disproved quickly, if it's wrong.
Good luck!
Re:linksys routers allow you to clone mac addresses.. i do that, even though it works fine without having to.. nice way to force a change in ip addresses..
Re:If it's possible clone the mac address of your nic to the router, many routers alow this, not sure about yours. It may be that the mac adress of you router is not recognized by the ATTBI network, tho I can't see why it would work on weekdays.
Try the main SAS authorization page and see if it tells you that you are registered with your current device.
Re:Weird, i dont think ive ever heard of a 'day of the week' related router problem before… Thats quite interesting. I have the same router as you do i believe. What im curious about, is that i dont think the router has any sence of what day it is…
Anyway, im interested in hearing what anyone has to say in responce to this… Good luck with it bro!
