Q: I have a install half-life, so I copied to the HD and successfully installed from there was going to do Opposing Force, and it would not work

any ideas?

Best Answer: Download it and re install it.

Re:<< Direct X may be hosed in your registry. Look in c:\Program Files\DirectX and run dxdiag. Let it run it's tests and see if it comes up with errors. Direct X is tied into a lot with the O/S and it could be that your problem is related to it.

I would recommend going to 98SE if possible, but you seem resistant to that idea, so it's your choice. I have 98SE because I prefer it's interface and functionality over ME (blecchHH!!), 2k or XP. (Okay, actually, i just don't feel like buying 2k or XP when I don't want my OS based on the NT platform for backwards compatibility reasons)

I also highly recommend getting Regclean from Microsoft directly or Regedit.com Regedit.com also has other registry tweaking utilities, so it is worth taking a look. Also, make sure you run scandisk to eliminate a problem with your hard drive, then defrag just for good measure. If none of these work, I have no idea what to tell you. Good luck! >>

yea cleaned the reigistry, didn't help :( a weird thing is, when the cd starts on autorun, i have the options of 'play ' or 'reinstsall ', now playing obviously does not work. i've tried everything i can think of to get rid of every trace of and sierra, so it would be like a fresh install, but it still does this. i remember the first time i tried to install it it said that uninstaller had a problem and i would have problems unistalling

Re:yea i got that, it's essential, u can't boot without it, but thanks for the idea anyway

Re:This is a longshot (http://www.microsoft.com/Windows95/downloads/contents/WURecommended/S_WUServicePacks/AMDPatch/Default.asp) and it might not have anything to do w/your problem, but it's worth a try. I had a friend who had weird glitches, (just started one day out of the blue) and random locks/failed boots on his K6-2 500 in win95, this fixed it.

Re:yea i'm not gonna buy a new OS because my new system i will get soon will have XP, but it'd be nice if this one would work properly for now

Re:thanks for the idea, but i've installed and updates on this OS fine before with no problems

Re:This probably won't help any, but a friend of mine tried installing c&c on win95 and it wouldn't work with him either. There's probably a different problem, but if you have access to 98 you might want to give it a try.

Re:amd k6-2 450
128mb ram
voodoo 3 agp
windows 95 version 2

i was getting errors with also, so i copied the cd to my hard drive and ran it from there and it worked. i also downloaded the latest patch for but when installing i get the same error meesage as installing OF
also red alert 2 won't install

i think it may be something to do with installshield i'm not sure
