Unable to resolve gateway and DNS * edit * problem solved * [gateway address] [cable modem]
Q: Hello all,
did a fresh winXP installed on the computer of my nephew, but can not seem to get on the same cable modem and roadrunner.
using Ethernet cable, it connects fine on my computer, but it will not work with my 0.
cousin when I do IPCONFIG stuff and my nephew, the IP address is ok, but there is no gateway address and DNS servers are not listed, and I have everything on automatic sensing.
This was using the onboard LAN . The same happened when I was a 3COM NIC is installed.
what going on?
* EDIT * ok problem is solved. I brought the computer back to the house of my cousin and it works fine for some reason. oh well.

Most? Hmmm… this hasn't been the experience with the two cable companies I've used – They were both just plug and play anywhere. Just my $.02

call them up, add the MAC and they will have you reboot your modem(you can try rebooting the modem before calling, after you plugged in her computer)

ahhh, it's getting a 169.x.x.x IP address, which means it ain't working.
yeah, i'm gonna go to his house and call up optimum and ask them about authentication and such.
unfortunately, no tengo un router =T

i don't think it's that. the same problem happened at my cousin's house with his broadband (he just got optimum online) and i'm pretty sure if i brought my computer to his house it will work.
is there something up with my cousin's computer?
