Updated firmware for Linksys WRT54G act now on all ports blink every 3 seconds!? [linksys wrt54g] [secs]

admin / May 24th, 2011/ Posted in Networking / No Comments »

Q: I have looked through the settings and I can do something that “broadcasts” to be found. Even the law for the WLAN LED flashes, which they did before the upgrade. Now its going to be a pain to determine when it is this “broadcast” or anyone to use. Everyone has an idea of what I could do to figure this out?

Re:phaha I just updated it w/ Wifi-box.net Release Version: 2.02.2.1.wfb 01/02/2004 and the WiFi sprung back to life!

EDIT: well same old same old 3 sec pulse, but now the WLAN led works. The firmware added some cool stuff like VPN server, static DHCP, and signal boost menu. Somewhat nifty I guess :P

Re:I think Im gonna try a moded firmware tonight http://wrt54g.sonycrx2xx.org/

Because now the LAN act LEDs are blinking every 3secs and the WLAN act LED doesnt blink at all!

I tried disabling DHCP and WIFI still pings. I also tried unpluging one computer (the other is off), still the LED for the one connected will blink every 3 . So for sure this is a new "feature" in the new firmware. :P This totally screws the point of having LEDs! I want the thing to blink when in use not every 3 seconds.

This is something new for the Consumer Grade Vendors.

My latest download in to my D-link 624 did the same thing.

The Status and WLAN LEDs blink back and forth from each other like a Railroad crossing. NO affect on performnace so it doesn't bother me. looks good when the room lights are off. :D

Re:A lot of that stuff isn't captured because its not Ethernet frame type (?)

Re:I cant believe none of my packet monitors capture it?!?! Nothing!! There has to be a header or something, but nothing gets it!? Damn Linksys :P

Re:Hey looking through the Firmware Release History I saw this. http://www.linksys.com/download/vertxt/wrt54g_ver.txt

- Added HeartBeat Signal support

check it out under Firmware Version 1.42.2. Could this be the "feature"??? If so then whats the benefit of a heartbeat??

Does this thing have a WLAN and regular Ethernet ports? If so unplug whatever you have in the WLAN port and just go with Ethernet port.

Re:is there an app that can search the local network for all IPs and host names?

Re:thx amdfanboy.
This is the router I have http://www.linksys.com/Products/product.asp?grid=33&scid=35&prid=601
I have two computers wired to it and one laptop using this linksys wireless-G card http://www.linksys.com/Products/product.asp?grid=33&scid=36&prid=507

heres a log from my wired computer picking up the laptop. But whats the two **IP**s at the end?

Re:If you have a 108Mbs router, you will get two "routers" because it uses channel bonding. Linksys and D-link have had some problems recently with firmware.

Re:nope thats the only firmware they have up.
http://www.linksys.com/download/firmware.asp?fwid=201
I turned off SSID broadcasting, UPnP, and under VPN IPSec Passthrough, PPTP Passthrough, L2TP Passthrough. Still every three I get the ping. Maybe its a new DHCP site check? I havent tried turning off DHCP.

This is strange. Using my laptop w/ netstumbler Im getting two routers with my SSID. The extra one has a MAC add of: 000000000000 and no vendor. Also using Airsnare Im getting: DHCP Src MAC: (laptop mac addy) /0.0.0.0 – Dest MAC: FFFFFFFFFFFF/255.255.255.255 and what WinDS and WinNS to a computer w/ an IP address not on my DHCP list. This never came up before. These airsnare warnings arent consistent w/ the three sec pings. Everytime airsnare catches this I loose WIFI connection for a couple seconds.
