Urgent! Hard disk is dying! [hard drives] [partition]
Q: I have a warning during POST that one of my hard drives (one with Windows on it) can fail at any time. Crap. I need to get a new drive .
My question is, If I go buy a new hard drive, I could just plug it in and install Windows without much hassly if I would do something too complicated? And if so can someone explain how to go about doing? I just want Win98SE on a large partition. Please hurry . I think I hear it starts to grind in there!
Re:Get a 7200RPM drive. Yes, it does make that much of a difference. The drive should come with software that'll allow you to transfer what's on your drive to the new one. I've only used the one from Maxtor and it worked great!
Re:Any retail HD comes with software that will allow you to copy over your old HD data to the new HD. Or you can download it from web sites from Maxtor and WD.
Re:One more thing… what's the difference between the 60GXP and the 75 GXP? The one that I was looking at was 60. Are those good drives?
Re:I'm looking at an IBM GXP 40gb 7200rpm drive. What do you guys think about that one? Does 7200 and 5400 really make much of a difference? Also, I heard that 7200 rpm drives die faster than 5400 ones.. should I be worried about something like that?
Re:Man..what are you still doing here…get off your butt and get that drive!!! You should have no problem installing 98SE.
