Video Card? Motherboard? ? What is the problem? [horizontal lines] [video card]

Q: I have a few problems with my PC, and a friend directed me here. I would really appreciate some help possible.

One days while working on homework, my screen started flickering and eventually went to . I reset and the same is done right from the start. I went through this sequence again and immedietly thought my had a number problems.

I met with the technical support for my , and she gave me the okay to send it in to work (it is still under guarantee). So I borrowed a similar from a friend.

I put the other card and the next time I started the video was fine, but there was a continuous beep like I was holding down a key on the keyboard ( I was not). I have to plug the keyboard and plugged back in and everything seemed ok. I logged on my computer and about 15 minutes later I got on the screen, just white. This confused me a bit, it is my motherboard?

Like I said, I would appreciate any help I can get. If I can more info, let me know.

Thanks.

Best Answer: well, first what mobo? and what ?

find that out and it will tell you if the two are compatible…

to disable the on board video go into the bios and enable the pci…pci-e….apg whatever the interface your using is (which should be done automatically, once it detects the card)…

go to the mfg. of the cards site and download the latest drivers for the card and install them and you should be all set.

Re:Thanks for the replies. I wouldn't think it would be the monitor only because I have been using it with my laptop ever since this problem occurred with my PC.

I had e-mailed tech support about the board and replied that it was in fact, more than likely that it was causing the problems. I will now tinker with the board settings a bit to see if I can avoid shelling out cash for a new one.

Thanks folks, and please let me know if you have any more thoughts.

Tim

Re:I'd say check monitor first and motherboard second.
Both by switching of course.

Re:It could even be your Monitor.

Sounds like after it starts warming up it has problems. I have several monitors here and have seen that before and it usually turns out to be the monitor.

What I am trying to say is I think your Monitor is overheating. If you can, switch and see if it keeps doing it.

Re:anyone have any more thoughts?

Re:Unfortunately I do not. What are you thinking is the problem?

Re:Do you have a pci you could test with?

Re:Both cards are agp. I have tried running my system with the lowest possible video settings and the result is the same.

I currently have 2 512mb sticks installed. I have tried using just one stick, swapping between the two etc. But have not tried entirely new ram…

Re:Were both cards agp or pci? Have you tried different ram?
