Want to set up an FTP server . something idiot proof please [couple of friends] [share files]
Q: actually wanted to set up a small server for a couple of friends to share files, I had a copy of Cerberus and do it . and my friend could join, but for whatever reason, he would join after he could n nowhere. I tried to assign the root directory of a whole partition, but no go .
this is the first time I have done something like this so any info would be helpfull

Re:serv-u is good for beginning but after awhile you get to go to G6/Bulletproof has alot more options.

it sounds like your problem was that you made the home directory point to the root dir, but forgot to give the user read access to the drive haha.
i've made this stupid mistake before.
Re:WarFTP is pretty hard to set up as I recall. I'd check out G6/BPFTP's FTP Server (http://www.gene6.com). It's got a great interface and is pretty intuitive.

Re:Bullet Proof FTP Server (http://www.wearebp.com/products.html) make sure you get the server and not just the client, it's pretty simple to set up also.

There are other programs also, but I forget what they are called. I think one of them is WarFTP (http://www.warftp.org/)
