What are good headphones to get? [quality headphones] [brand models]
Q: I have a good quality headphones but do not spend more than $ 50. They should have a good sound quality and comfortable for long sessions. I will mainly use it on my computer and portable MP3 player. I do not know what brand / model to get. Ive heard that Sennheiser is a good brand. How are their u0026quot, dynamic supra-aural headphones HD490 u0026quot;? It costs $ 79.99, are they worth? Please gimmie suggestions.
Thanks!
Re:I definately recommend you look into the Grado SR-60's. I also picked up them from audiofx for $59 earlier this year. They are definately some of the best headphones under $100.
Re:I like my pair of Technics headphones.. nice fit, no noise let out.. solid bass and treble.
I got it for 20 bucks from Gutiar Center (list 70+)

Re:490's do not suck. They just dont put out the traditional sennheiser sound.
Out of a sound card, you probably wont notice any major flaws in the 495's.
The weakest link in your audio chain will either be the mp3's, the recording of the sounds in the game or your sound card.
Why put pirelli tires on a yugo?
Re:Do the 495's have alot of bass to em or are they just fairly balanced? I mean for as far as First person shooters go?
Re:Aack, looks like audiofx upped their price back to $69 shipped. Sorry about that. I'm pretty sure there's other places to get them for $59 shipped. Don't remember where though.
They are open-air like guy says so that might be a concern. I have heard that the Sennheiser 495 and 545s are good as well. However, you need to keep in mind that the 495s are not as efficient and I believe the 545s have a higher impedance so you'll need more wattage to drive both headphones to comparable levels of the SR60. You should keep that in mind when purchasing headphones for a soundcard. The Sennheisers are also more expensive.
Re:DO NOT get the 490! they suck except that they look cool.
495 and 545 are good.
but for that price range, I think it leaves you with Grados 60.
Re:I got my sportapro's a bestbuy for $15 cause it was damaged box w00t. They own for porable, at home I use Senn HD580s.
Re:If youre going to be walking around with them on, get a pair of koss portables off headphone.com's website.
Sony has some fancy in-ear phones that cost about $50. I hear they are good after they break-in.
Re:The Grado SR60's are very hard to beat for around $60 bucks. They are possibly the best value at your price range. There are some known short comings though. Being a set of open headphones, there is a lot of sound leakage. People around will hear what you are listening to, and outside noise can get through to your ears. Secondly, the SR60's are known for a slight lack of bass. Thirdly, the cords are pretty thick and stiff, making it not as portable-friendly. And finally, as with any Grado's, you'll either love or hate the "retro" look of them.
Now if you really want to save some money, get the Koss Sporta-Pro's for under $20 from buy.com or onvia or amazon.. these headphones sound really good for the low price.. and they have very strong bass.. many actually find it to be too boomy to their likings.. the sporta-pros are very light and portable, and can be worn two ways, tradition or behind the ear…
as always.. try to audition these headphones before you buy them..
Edit felt it was necessary to note that I like Grados very much!
somehow i came out sounding more negative than positive on the SR60's..
Re:I have two pairs of Grado SR-60s and recommend them highly. I also owned the Sennheiser HD490s which I don't recommend. I sold the Sennheisers off cuz the bass was way too forward and muddy.
Buy the Grados from AudioFX (http://www.audiofx.com) for $59 shipped. That's where I got mine from and the service there is good.
Re:Where do I find those? Not on their website?
Re:Grado 60s are easily the BEST cans you can get at 60 bucks. The new ones are very comfortable also.
Re:For under $80, you've got a world of choice (and there's some really good cans to choose from). Got talk to the guys at the headwize.com headphone forums. There are a bunch of threads precisely on this topic already.
Re:80 bucks for headphones that you are going to be lugging around with you to listen to mp3s with? Just spend like 30 on some of the sony headphones that go around the back of your head instead of over the top. My friend has them and the sound is great, the wrap around the back of your head thin is so comfortable, and the cord it comes with is nice and long so you can easily have it in your computer
